Lupus patients may look good but suffer in silence
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that turns your immune system against your own body and begins to attack your body’s cells and tissues. Lupus is not like other illnesses that impact your daily living on a constant basis. Lupus patients experience periods of flares and remissions that are often unpredictable and random. Some experts claim there are triggers such as stress or sun that can cause a flare up but there are yet to be valid evidence to support that theory.
There are three different types of Lupus
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE): This is the most common form of the disease and can affect virtually any organ in your body including your heart, lungs, kidney, and liver. More women than men come down with Lupus with a 9 to 1 ratio. Most people will be affected between the ages of 15-40.
Cutaneous Lupus: This form of Lupus generally only impacts your skin. It appears as a horrible rash that can be found on your scalp, legs or arms. The rash often leaves scar tissue and hair will not regrow on placed impacted on the scalp.
Drug-induced Lupus: This is a much less common form of this illness and only affects about 10% of Lupus suffers. Symptoms are generally mild and generally go away after the medication is stopped.
